MAZ - Dick Bos - complete 1e serie - 26 Album

Dick Bos is a Dutch comic series by Alfred Mazure. In the stories, Dick Bos is a private detective who fights crime in a hard but fair way, and who is an expert in jiujitsu. Techniques of this self-defense art are depicted in detail in the comics. The books were published from 1941 to 1968 and drawn by Alfred Mazure, who signed under the pseudonym Maz.

During World War II many booklets were lost, not least because they, after being read by young and old, were burned in the stoves. After the war the adventures of Dick Bos were republished, with old and new stories appearing in different series mixed together. The Ministry of Education, Arts and Sciences found the graphic novel corrupt, and had warnings placed in schools about the negative influence the comics would have on students. From 1948 to 1953 the publication of the Dick Bos books was resumed. A new story appeared monthly. They were published during this period by Ten Hagen's Drukkerij en Uitgeversmaatschappij. From 1962 Nooitgedacht published the albums and later some old stories were republished by the MAZ-beeldbibliotheek. Subsequently Mazure produced 44 new stories from 1963 to 1967. These are known under the name Ruitjesserie. The last story in the series, "Diamanten" (Diamonds), appeared in 1968. In 1969 another promotional issue appeared called "Glashard", but in that there was a somewhat different drawing and wording style than in the previous series.

This lot contains the complete very first series of original Dick Bos booklets in reasonably good condition.
