Ryūbundō cast iron tetsubin with dual head-branch signature on base and lid, from Kyoto, Japan, dating to 1800–1900, dimensions 22 cm high by 15 cm wide by 10 cm deep, weight 1600 g, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Ryūbundō (龍文堂) Cast Iron Tetsubin, Head-Branch Signed, Japanese Tea Kettle
A cast iron tetsubin (tea kettle) by Ryūbundō (龍文堂), one of the most celebrated names in Japanese cast ironware. The body has a fluted, mokko (gourd-shaped) form with a textured cast surface, a swept-back spout, and an arched wrought-iron handle (tsuru). The lid is fitted in copper/bronze with a fruit-form finial knob.
Notably, both the body and the lid bear the incised "龍文堂" signature — a mark of the head branch (本家) workshop, as opposed to later cadet-branch production which typically carries the signature on the lid alone. This dual signature is a strong indicator of authenticity and places this piece among the more desirable Ryūbundō examples for collectors.
Material: Cast iron (body), copper/bronze (lid and knob)
Dimensions: Width 18 cm × Height 22 cm (with handle) × Diameter 9 cm × Depth 10 cm
Weight: 1600g
Signature: "龍文堂" incised on both the base and the lid (head-branch attribution)
Condition: Very good condition for its age
Origin: Japan
