Massive cut-crystal Art Deco decanter from Bohemia, Czech Republic, dating to the early 20th century, weighing 1.445 kg, 24 cm high, 13 cm wide and 7.5 cm deep, in good vintage condition with minor signs of age and a nearly invisible tiny flea-bite on the stopper.
Description from the seller
Large crystal Art Deco carafe – in the style of Karl Palda, Moser & Escher – 1.45 kg
A monumental and extremely elegant vintage/antique crystal carafe in pronounced Art Deco style.
This carafe is a beautiful example of the geometric, architectural design from the early 20th century, heavily inspired by avant-garde glass art from Bohemia.
Because of the airtight stopper this carafe is exceptionally suitable for stylishly presenting strong spirits (such as whisky, cognac or rum), liqueur, or simply as an exclusive decorative piece.
The design is characterized by a clean, streamlined shape.
The sides of the carafe feature impressive, stepped and faceted ribs.
This repeating geometric linework creates a fascinating light refraction and an optical illusion reminiscent of the mathematical art of M.C. Escher.
The carafe is crowned by an imposing, massive crystal stopper in a clean trapezium shape, entirely in line with the iconic designs of Karl Palda and the high-quality facet-cut crystal designs of Moser.
Thanks to the generous dimensions and a substantial weight of no less than 1450 grams, this carafe exudes pure luxury and solid quality.
The heavy crystal provides fabulous brilliance in the light.
Condition:
In good vintage condition. No major damage, but normal age-related signs and slight patina in keeping with age and use, and a tiny flea-bite on the stopper, almost invisible, but must be mentioned. (see photos for an accurate personal impression).
