Description from the seller
2005 Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin.
Level: high fill.
Capsule: excellent.
Label: excellent.
The 2005 Maison Leroy Gevrey-Chambertin is an extraordinary example of what a négociant wine can achieve under the rigorous selection of Lalou Bize-Leroy. While "Maison" indicates a négociant bottling (crafted from grapes or must purchased from external growers rather than estate-owned vines), Lalou's legendary palate means these barrels are treated with extreme care, resulting in a village-level wine that regularly outperforms many other producers' Premier Crus.
Flavor Profile & Tasting Notes: The 2005 vintage across the Côte de Nuits yielded high-tannin, high-acid wines built for massive longevity.
The Nose: Clean and developing, marked by deep iron-earth minerality, dark red cherry, hints of cured meat, crushed stone, and classic Gevrey "undergrowth" or forest floor notes..
The Palate: Firmly structured, full-bodied, and dry. It has high acidity and persistent, fine-grained tannins. It shows great dark-fruit energy but leans heavily into savory, masculine elements like iron, brown spice, and dark tea.
Evolution Note: Critics and collectors note that the 2005 vintage remains remarkably tight and reticent. It requires significant air time in the glass or a long decant to fully drop its initial austerity and show its fruit profile.
