Description from the seller
Élodie Guignard is a French photographer and author, born in 1979, a graduate of the École nationale supérieure de la photographie d’Arles in 2004 with honors from the jury. She develops a body of work around the human, the body, portraiture, and the relationship to territory.
Her approach sits between documentary photography, staging, and poetic writing. She has her subjects pose in spaces that feel timeless, creating images that borrow as much from literature and painting as from documentary photography.
Some notable series
Les Magnifiques — portraits of Emmaüs companions, created in 2012. The project led to a book published by Éditions de Juillet, with a foreword by Martin Hirsch.
Narcissus or the Reversed Breath — work centered on the female body, water, the mirror, and mythological references to Narcissus and Ophelia.
Le Village de l’Aurore — work made in India, at the border with Bangladesh.
En été — series produced during a residency in La Rochelle, where she blends characters, stories, and myths in a territory she is discovering.
Ciments — artistic residency carried out for the Lamotte group, resulting in a photographic book about its 250 collaborators.
She was also selected for the Prix Balzac in 2021, among ten photographers.
