Artist biography

Antoni (Antonio) Vidal Rolland was a Catalan figurative painter active during the first half and mid-20th century, specializing in still lifes, flowers, fruits and genre scenes.

Basic biographical data:

Birth: Barcelona, 1889.

Death: 1970.

Training:

He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, where he was a pupil of Professor Ruiz, Pablo Picasso's father, which links him to the Barcelona academic tradition of the late 19th century.​

Work and themes:

He specialized in still lifes and figures, with frequent floral motifs and fruits (peaches, etc.), within a genre-decorative line highly appreciated in the Catalan market.

He also created oil portraits on panel (táblex), usually signed in the lower right corner.​

He participated in numerous Barcelona, national and international competitions, indicating some exposure in life, though he did not reach major museum fame.
