Antoni (Antonio) Vidal Rolland was a Catalan figurative painter active during the first half and mid-20th century, specializing in still lifes, flowers, fruits and genre scenes.
Basic biographical data:
Birth: Barcelona, 1889.
Death: 1970.
Training:
He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona, where he was a pupil of Professor Ruiz, Pablo Picasso's father, which links him to the Barcelona academic tradition of the late 19th century.
Work and themes:
He specialized in still lifes and figures, with frequent floral motifs and fruits (peaches, etc.), within a genre-decorative line highly appreciated in the Catalan market.
He also created oil portraits on panel (táblex), usually signed in the lower right corner.
He participated in numerous Barcelona, national and international competitions, indicating some exposure in life, though he did not reach major museum fame.
