Description from the seller
This sculptural composition represents four stylized female figures, rendered in high relief, in a remarkable palette of cobalt blues, deep blue, and earth/brown-golden tones.
The treatment of the faces, garments, and vegetation, combined with variations in the glossy enamel, gives the plaque a particularly decorative presence. A piece very characteristic of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern ceramics from the 1960s and of Marianne Starck's work for Michael Andersen.
Back marks:
incised signature MS for Marianne Starck;
mark of the Michael Andersen & Son manufactory with the three herrings;
model number 5842.
