Vintage Space Age mushroom wall lamp – beige/brown – Dutch design – 1970s

A particularly atmospheric vintage wall lamp from the 1970s, executed in the characteristic combination of warm beige/cream and dark brown. The large rounded shade, the compact wall fixture and the adjustable construction give the lamp the typical Space Age / Mid-Century Modern look that is so distinctive for Dutch lighting from this period.

The showpiece is undoubtedly the large mushroom-shaped shade. The exterior has a warm beige tone, while the light interior reflects the light nicely. When the lamp is lit, the shade itself glows subtly and creates a particularly warm and diffuse lighting effect.

Typically Dutch 1970s design

This type of mushroom- or toadstool lamp was produced in the Netherlands in the 1960s and 1970s by several well-known lighting manufacturers, including Dijkstra, Herda, Gepo, and Raak. Characteristic are the rounded plastic or plexiglass shades, warm brown and beige tones, and the ability to direct the light.

In terms of form, this exemplar shows strong similarities with the well-known Herda mushroom wall lamps from the 1970s: a beige plexiglass shade combined with a brown metal wall fixture. For documented Herda examples, the shade can also be rotated. Dijkstra also produced similar beige mushroom wall lamps during this period.

Because no factory mark or label is visible in the photos shown, this lamp is not attributed to a specific manufacturer.

Adjustable and functional
The fixture is fitted with a hinged/adjustable connection, allowing the shade to be placed in different positions. This enables the lamp to be used as ambient lighting or for more focused light.

A beautiful object beside an armchair or bed, above a nightstand, in a reading corner, or as a pronounced vintage accent in a modern interior.

Condition
The lamp is in good vintage used condition. There are signs of use and age, including scratches and light superficial signs of wear on the shade and the fixture. These are commensurate with the age and use of the object.
