Antique wooden pipe rack with 5 vintage tobacco pipes – brass looking plaque – circa 1930

A particularly atmospheric antique wall pipe rack with five old tobacco pipes, made of dark wood and equipped with nice brass-colored pipe holders. The whole exudes the atmosphere of the classic smoking room and today mainly serves as an attractive collectible and decoration object.

Centrally on the rack sits a beautiful brass plaque with the text:

“Should the pipe please you, you are of good cheer.”

This same traditional Dutch saying appears on comparable historical pipe racks from the first half of the 20th century. Similar items are dated around 1930.

The wooden backboard has a decorative bead edge at the top and is equipped with five separate brass-colored holders. On the back are two hanging eyes, allowing the rack to be presented directly as a wall object.

What makes it particularly attractive is that the rack is still offered with five different used tobacco pipes. On several pipes there are old inlays or engraved brand markings and origin marks visible. For example, “England” is readable. Other inscriptions have been partially deciphered due to age and use; therefore they are consciously not attributed to a specific manufacturer.

Condition: authentic used state with clear signs of age and use. The pipes have indeed been used and show buildup, discoloration, wear, scratches, and signs of use around the bowls and mouthpieces. Wood and brass also show patina and normal signs of aging. This patina of use gives the whole piece a lot of character.
