DESCRIPTION:
Magnificent pair of photographs taken by Manfred L. Kreiner on November 15, 1962, during the meeting between John F. Kennedy and Carl E. Sanders, then elected Governor of Georgia, in the Oval Office of the White House.

The first photograph shows Kennedy and Sanders seated in the Oval Office, surrounded by numerous press photographers capturing their meeting. The second offers a more intimate view of their exchange, with the presidential desk and the American flags in the background.

Before his election to the governorship, Carl E. Sanders actively supported John F. Kennedy’s nomination. The two men, close in age and both former World War II veterans, had developed genuine sympathy and a privileged relationship.

Shortly after his election, Sanders was thus welcomed by Kennedy at the White House, in the Oval Office, for a direct exchange between the two men.

Gathered in this lot, the two photographs offer two complementary perspectives on this meeting, between the buzz of the press and the closeness of the presidential exchange.
