István Mérő (1873–1938) was a Hungarian artist who was active around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century. He received his art training in Budapest, Munich and Paris, three major European art centers of his time. In 1898 he studied and worked at the well-known Nagybánya artists' colony, which played an important role in the development of modern Hungarian painting.

Besides his own artistic work, Mérő was employed for several years as a drawing teacher at the Ferenc József Institute. From 1895 he regularly participated in exhibitions in the Hungarian capital. His oeuvre includes landscapes, water views, interiors and figurative works. Many of his works are characterized by an atmospheric, natural rendering of the subject and a special attention to light and surroundings.

His work was also officially appreciated: in 1912 Mérő received a Hungarian state gold medal.

The work is generally in good condition (the surface is a bit dirty).
The work is signed lower right and is in a matching frame (with light signs of use).
