Offered is an original vintage Diamond mechanical twin bell alarm clock, made in China and bearing the characteristic Diamond branding on the dial.

The clock has a highly distinctive retro design, with a rectangular rounded case, large twin chrome bells, arched carrying handle, cream coloured dial, bold black Arabic numerals, red central details and a black stepped pedestal base. The combination of chrome, black and cream gives the clock a strong Mid Century / Space Age vintage aesthetic.

Identification and provenance

The Diamond (Zuanshi) brand is associated with Chinese clock production in Shanghai. Comparable Diamond mechanical alarm clocks are documented by Catawiki and specialist vintage sellers as Shanghai made pieces dating broadly from the 1960s to the 1970s, with some related examples extending into the 1970s–1980s.

A comparable Diamond twin bell model is specifically described as a mechanical Diamond alarm clock made in Shanghai, China, circa 1970–1980, with dimensions of approximately 12 × 8.5 × 5.5 cm.

The present clock has the same distinctive Diamond styling, twin bell construction and “MADE IN CHINA” marking visible on the clock, making it highly consistent with this group of Chinese Diamond mechanical alarm clocks.
