Juan Carlos Rayas - Qroqos

Juan Carlos Rayas (Alicante, Spain) is a sculptor and has a degree in Fine Arts from the San Carlos Faculty in Valencia, with training at the Prague School of Art and Design. His work has been selected and awarded in national and international competitions and is part of public and private collections. He currently develops his work in collaboration with Claroa Gallery, a gallery that represents his work.

QROQOS · Nascens Natura

Qroqos belongs to Nascens Natura, a sculptural line in which Juan Carlos Rayas investigates the structures and growth processes of the natural world, translating them into the language of stone.

The work arises from observing the plant forms at the moment they begin to open. Several volumes emerge from a single nucleus and unfold in different directions, like petals that still retain the tension of a closed form.

It is not about reproducing a specific flower, but about capturing something more essential: the impulse of a form that is born, grows and opens to space.

The sculpture is created by direct carving in Macael marble. The softness of the surfaces and the defined profiles emphasize the organic character of the piece, while the veining, small marks and natural variations of the marble remain visible as part of its identity.

As the viewpoint changes, the volumes hide, overlap or open up, causing the perception of the work to transform as you move around it. The permanence of the stone thus enters into dialogue with a form that seems to be still in full growth.
