This original oil painting is part of my Reclaimed Icons series, a body of work exploring the relationship between mass-produced objects, consumption and personal experience.
The iconic Coca-Cola glass is depicted full, suspended in the moment before consumption. Unlike the crushed cans and empty containers that appear in other works from the series, here the object has not yet reached the end of its function. It is still waiting for the human gesture that will transform it.
The familiar glass, reproduced with close attention to reflections, transparency and the dark liquid within, becomes a contemporary still life and a symbol of everyday rituals shared across generations.
In Reclaimed Icons, globally recognizable objects are removed from advertising and commercial imagery and observed as objects that accompany our lives. Before, during or after use, they become connected to individual moments and memories.
