Vieux Château Certan is one of the oldest, most prestigious, and historic estates in the entire Pomerol appellation, with deep winemaking roots dating back to the 16th century under the Demay family. The modern era of the estate began in 1924, when it was acquired by the Belgian wine merchant Georges Thienpont, permanently linking the chateau's destiny to this famous winemaking dynasty. Within this glorious history, the 1986 vintage holds a monumental position and unique collector's value: it marks the very first vintage entirely vinified and signed by Alexandre Thienpont, who took over the reins of the winery that year, introducing a drastic and rigorous grape selection process. Unlike typical Pomerol profiles, Vieux Château Certan has always stood out for its unique terroir featuring an unusually high percentage of Cabernet Franc.
