Description from the seller

Jean Le Gall (1969)
Born in Quimper in 1969, Jean Le Gall is a French artist trained at the Penninghen School in Paris. After his studies, he quickly leans toward interior design and develops an eclectic activity at the crossroads of visual arts and performance. He regularly collaborates with theatre, cinema, television and the music world, for which he designs and creates numerous painted scenery.

Endowed with remarkable facility in reproducing contemporary works, Jean Le Gall possesses great technical mastery that allows him to respond to a wide variety of projects. He can thus recreate with great precision compositions, motifs and visual universes intended to be integrated into sets, stages or singular spaces.

His work is nourished by the influence of artists such as Sol LeWitt, Peter Halley and Simone Decker, as well as by his deep interest in geometric abstraction. At the end of the 1980s, a conference followed by a meeting with Victor Vasarely also marks a turning point in his career. He then discovers Op Art and becomes passionate about perceptual games, depth effects, chromatic vibrations and visual Illusions.

Today, Jean Le Gall returns to old canvases, long considered only through the prism of decoration. He offers them a new existence and a renewed reading, transforming these works into spaces of pictorial research. Through his work, he seeks to reveal what was already present in these canvases while breathing a more personal, contemporary and artistic dimension into them.

This approach represents a true renaissance for him: that of works that, after having accompanied decors and stories, become pieces in their own right.
