Description from the seller
I propose, without reserve price, this collection of 7 Pill and Fly/Flies Boxes in Silver and Silvered Metal. The set comprises 7 boxes of varied shapes and periods, illustrating fine goldsmithing craftsmanship:
Large round box in Louis XVI style with a central floral motif surrounded by a frieze of flowers and ribbons. Silverware mark from France. Diameter 6 cm, height 3.5 cm, weight 70 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear, light oxidation.
Filigree box: Filigree work forming rosettes and arabesque hearts. The lid is shaped like a flower/rosette, the sides are pierced with fine flowers. No visible hallmark. Diameter up to 7 cm with feet, height 3.5 cm, weight 34 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear, light oxidation.
Small hexagonal box (925 Silver): Faceted sides and a smooth lid with a fine beveled edge. 925 silver hallmark and garland (imported item).
Diameter 2.5 cm, height 8 mm, weight 6 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear, light oxidation.
Oval engraved box (English 925 Silver): The lid is chiseled with a motif of latticework and geometric stars/flowers, leafy border. Hallmarks of British silversmiths 925 London.
It was made by the silversmith AN into a shield (Ari D Norman).
Founded in 1974. Granted in 1989 by Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Ari D. Norman was the very first company of British silversmiths to receive The Queen's Award for Export Achievement.
Diameter 5.2 cm, height 1 cm, weight 18 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear, light oxidation.
Shell-shaped box: MADE IN ITALY hallmark.
Diameter 5 cm, height about 2 cm, weight 23 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear, light oxidation.
Toothed/grooved round box with twisted border: Radiant spiral-like decorative pattern with a twisted border. No visible hallmark. Diameter 4 cm, height about 2 cm, weight 27 g.
Good condition, signs of use and wear; the interior appears to have been vermeiled, shows heavy wear and light oxidation.
Guilloché round box: Fine geometric guilloché work. Old German craftsmanship. Marked 800.
Several defects to note visible in the photos in addition to signs of use and wear and light oxidation:
Dents (slight depressions) on the top and bottom of the box.
It seems this box once had a small mirror; over time the glass tinge has faded, leaving only the glass.
Diameter 3.8 cm, height about 1.3 cm, weight 21 g.
All the boxes are in good condition (functional clasps, no silvering loss) but with age-related flaws. They are as shown in the photos.
