Born March 4, 1935 in Utrecht.

G.J. Ernens came into contact at a young age with the well-known painter J. Bévort, who helped him develop his talent.

After Bévort he worked for a while with the interior and church painter Jan Jumelet.

Gerard Ernens has always been, from the start, a painter who uses the palette knife. Because the paint is mixed on the canvas with the palette knife, one achieves effects that are difficult to approach otherwise. Inspired by Bévort’s work, he has focused on this and achieved remarkable results.

He has taken private lessons for a while from Mr. Kranen, a teacher at the Artibus Academy in Utrecht, but could not ultimately reconcile with this. He has sought and found his own path.

His paintings have a light impressionistic touch and are nevertheless clearly recognizable.

He mainly paints flowers and landscapes, with his flower arrangements being the most appealing. His landscapes have a somewhat somber character, although this atmosphere is particularly valued. Some paintings, such as dune sea, are painted brighter but always with a threatening sky.
