Antique bronze holy-water basin with crucifix - Folk art

Religious holy-water basin (bénitier) with a detailed crucifix. This object is a striking example of Christian folk art from Western Europe (probably the Southern Netherlands or France) and dates to the 19th century. The object features a characteristic shell-shaped reservoir that at the front is decorated with refined engravings of floral and geometric motifs. Above the basin is a richly adorned cross with a detailed corpus of Christ and the INRI placard.

Religieus wijwaterbakje (bénitier) met een gedetailleerd kruisbeeld. Dit object is een sprekend voorbeeld van christelijke volkskunst uit West-Europa (vermoedelijk Zuid-Nederland of Frankrijk) en dateert 19e eeuw. Het object is voorzien van een karakteristiek schelpvormig reservoir dat aan de voorzijde gedecoreerd is met verfijnd graveerwerk van florale en geometrische motieven. Boven het bakje bevindt zich een rijkelijk bewerkt kruis met een gedetailleerd corpus van Christus en het INRI titulusbordje.
