FEATURE PIECE OF THE LOT: Leopoldo Alas "Clarín" – Pipá (Madrid, Librería de Fernando Fé, 1886).Historical importance: This is the coveted first edition in book form of this famous prenaturalist short-story collection by the author of La Regenta. A masterpiece of the Generation of ’68, essential for any eminent Spanish literature library.Unique detail: On the upper right margin of the first page of the text, the copy bears an attractive period handwritten inscription in pencil clearly reading the name "Clarín" [image_nP4Ojq.png]. This marginal signature/annotation is uncontrasted, adding a strong halo of romance, history, and undeniable interest for graphologists and bibliophiles who wish to investigate its provenance. The literary text of the stories (including "Pipá" and "Avecilla") is 100% complete and intact with a clean reading.

DETAILED CONSERVATION REPORT (CONDITION REPORT)
Binding: Half-leather (Holland binder’s style) period binding with spines equipped with false nerves, gilt fillets, and ornaments. Covers with watermarked/marmole paper. Structurally stable and firm as a block.
External wear: Show the logical, noble wear from the passage of time (nearly 140 years old). Mild scuffs, fatigue, and partial loss of leather at corners, board edges, and ends of the spines (notable at the base of the spine of Clarín’s volume).
Interior condition: The paper shows natural aging with slight browning, remaining flexible and free from serious mold (foxing). Text printing stains are clean. As an interior flaw to note, the Pipá by Clarín presents a circular loss of old paper on the front matter/credit page preceding the text, affecting the lower printer’s imprint, as well as weakness in the binding of the initial quires. However, the start and body of the literary work are completely intact.
