Opaline of Florence, Vetreria Barbieri (V.B.) made in the Empoli region (Italy) around 1968-1974. This flagship piece is executed in the iconic Mid-Century Modern and Space Age styles and is in beautiful condition.
The vase is produced with the traditional Incamiciato technique: a layered design with a full, milky white opaline interior and a red exterior, interrupted by hand-blown, black vertical bands. Because of the handwork, the pigment stretches uniquely here and there, creating a lively and organic pattern.
This is the rare, large oval version (flattened ovoid), which required a great deal of craftsmanship to blow in this form. Authenticity is immediately recognizable by its weight and the original, rough pontil mark on the base.
