Description from the seller
The subject of this auction is a large-format oil painting on canvas depicting Vladimir Lenin in his study, seated in an armchair and leaning over a sheet of paper. The focused expression on his face suggests he is reading a written text or taking notes. Style: Socialist Realism (historical and propaganda painting of the Soviet period).
The painting is unsigned, which was a common tactic employed by artists of that period who did not wish their names to be associated with works of this kind. They were often forced to accept such commissions.
The canvas bears clear signs of ageing, cracks, paint loss and retouching. Its current condition only reinforces the impression that we are dealing with an authentic witness to history. The painting has been stored in a dry room and shows no signs of mould or a musty odour. There is a stamp on the reverse, but unfortunately I am unable to make out what it says. The painting was purchased at an antiques market in Kraków.
Dimensions: 130 x 150 cm.
The painting will be carefully packed and dispatched rolled up.
Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the description.
Due to limited availability, we do not dispatch to Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Belarus or the United States.
