Château Fourcas Hosten, Listrac-Médoc 2019 - OWC - 6 bottles

A characterful Left Bank Bordeaux from the Listrac-Médoc appellation, produced by an estate that has fully converted its 50-hectare vineyard to organic farming, with biodynamic practices also in use. The vines are planted across two classic terroirs — gravel soils suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, and clay-limestone soils that favour Merlot — giving the wine its structure and depth. The blend is built on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

In the glass, the 2019 shows a deep ruby colour with fine grain and good definition on the nose, offering notes of wild blackberry, fleshy wild strawberry and cherry, layered with touches of violet, Sichuan pepper and discreet hints of tobacco. On the palate, sleek blueberry and blackberry fruit carry real lift and juiciness through to a well-balanced, full-bodied finish — a wine with genuine Médoc character.

Well regarded by the trade. The 2019 vintage picked up a solid 90–91 points (15.5/20) from Vertdevin, and has drawn favourable notes from other Bordeaux critics as well. 2019 is considered a strong, classic vintage on the Left Bank, and this bottling offers an accessible, honestly priced entry point into serious Médoc winemaking — a lovely bottle for drinking and building a well-rounded cellar, rather than a speculative buy.
