Antique signed Japanese porcelain platter – hand-painted – ca. 1910–1925.
A particularly large and atmospheric Japanese porcelain platter from the first quarter of the 20th century. Not a common utilitarian object, but a refined decorative piece in which the Japanese love of nature, calm and harmony is beautifully combined.
The platter is entirely hand-painted with a classic combination of kachō-ga – flowers and birds – and sansui, the traditional landscape painting with mountains, water and trees.
Centered are two finely worked pheasant-like birds among flowers and grasses, while other birds fly through the landscape. In the background unfolds a serene mountain-and-water landscape with trees and traditional buildings. The soft pink, blue, green, brown and gray tones give the whole an elegant and hushed appearance.
The lightly scalloped edge is finished with a fine gold decoration.

On the underside there is a red hand-painted two-character mark, presumably read as 林山 – Rinzan. A definitive attribution to a specific artist or workshop cannot be fully confirmed; it is therefore carefully offered as signed Japanese porcelain, the signature presumably Rinzan.
Based on form, painting style and craftsmanship, the platter is dated to ca. 1910–1925, late Meiji/Taishō period.

Condition:
Good antique condition for the age. Localized light wear to the gilded edge. On one side there is a subtle age line, mainly visible upon close inspection. The painting is otherwise well preserved.
A beautiful piece of old Japanese ceramic heritage, appealing to collectors of Japanese porcelain, Asian art and Japonisme, but also very decorative in a stylish interior.
