This is Bertrand Munier – Wines and Distillation in Lorraine, published by Éditions du Quotidien. It is a richly illustrated work devoted to Lorraine’s viticultural heritage and distillation traditions.
The content is particularly rich, the history of the vine and wine in Lorraine, presentation of grape varieties (pinot blanc, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer…), vineyards of the Meuse and Moselle hills, local estates and producers, viticultural techniques and traditions, history of bottles and their capacities, eaux-de-vie and fruit spirits, as well as traditional recipes, notably that of the redcurrant “wine.” The work also includes portraits and testimonies, including a section devoted to Joseph Simon, a guardian figure of Moselle wines.
The layout is particularly careful, with many color photographs, portraits, vineyard landscapes, bottles, estates and explanatory documents.

Volume 2 Jacques Frexinos — The King of Alcohol: A Concise History of Alcohol and Alcoholism

Important work devoted to the world of French wine, in which Guy Renvoisé offers a documented and critical analysis of the evolution of contemporary viticulture and oenology.
Published in 2004 by Éditions du Rouergue, the book approaches wine from its historical foundations to modern issues of production, terroir and marketing.
The book opens with “A millennial civilization of wine,” retracing the history of the vine from the Roman Empire to the contemporary era. A substantial section titled “The terroir, the vine, the wine” studies notably the soil and subsoil, natural drainage of major terroirs, vineyard erosion, biodynamics, grape varieties, clonal selection, old vines, mechanization of harvests and various viticultural practices.
The author also discusses winemaking and aging techniques, destemming, the role of the oenologist, use of new barrels, fermentation, corking, aging potential and vintage quality.
The work is enriched with numerous color photographs and detailed vineyard maps, allowing the locations of appellations, estates and production areas. Among the illustrations are the vineyards of Aloxe-Corton and Côte-Rôtie, as well as maps dedicated to the Southwest appellations.
Several maps come from The World Atlas of Wine by Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson, in its French version published by Flammarion.

Marcel Lachiver — Wines, Vines and Winemakers. History of the French Vineyard — Fayard
Reference work devoted to the history of the vine, wine and winemakers in France, from the origins to the contemporary era. Marcel Lachiver studies the evolution of the French vineyard in its historical, economic, social and technical aspects.
The volume notably covers the development of traditional vineyards, with a substantial section devoted to their peak from the 17th century to the mid-19th century, grape growing methods, grape varieties, harvests, winemaking, presses and other equipment used by winemakers.
The work is well documented and contains numerous technical illustrations, old reproductions, diagrams and maps, including a large map showing the main French wine regions and their grape varieties. Several types of historic presses are also reproduced, notably from the Encyclopédie of Diderot and d’Alembert.

This is a teaching and olfactory training box, made in France.
It includes 12 aroma bottles, all present, nos. 12, 13, 15, 17, 18, 29, 30, 32, 36, 40, 43 and 54, corresponding to the 12 announced families: strawberry, raspberry, blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry, violet, green bell pepper, truffle, licorice, vanilla, pepper and smoky note.
The box also includes the Jean Lenoir book/guide, devoted to the origin of aromas, olfactory function and the aromatic profile of grape varieties.

Complete copy in good overall condition, with its large red box, inner compartment and its 12 bottles.
This one is particularly interesting as it is a thematically focused box entirely devoted to red wines.
