Northwest Africa 18525, a Superbe Primitive Chondrite meteorite (H4 S2 W2) from Northwest Africa, main mass, 477 g, with a certificate of authenticity, specimen ID card, printed specimen picture and thin-section images.
Description from the seller
This is primitive meteorite classified as an H4 ordinary chondrite from the Sahara Desert weighs 477 grams and shows a well-preserved primary fusion crust, regmaglypts, secondary fusion crust, shock-melt veins, and abundant, well-defined chondrules.
This is one of my most recent classifications, and you will be buying from the main mass holder. Except for the type specimen required for classification and a few small sections which will remain with me, this is all there is of this meteorite.
The buyer will also receive (upon request) a few microscope thin-section, cross-polarised light images taken by the classifier, showing various types of chondrules and the matrix of the specimen.
Northwest Africa 18525 (NWA 18525)
(Northwest Africa)
Purchased: 2025 Nov 19
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4)
History: Purchased from a meteorite dealer at an online auction.
Physical characteristics: Single specimen, showing primary fusion crust on ~15% of the surface together with regmaglypts, and secondary fusion crust on approximately 85% of the surface.
Petrography: (Jose Garcia, ADARA) Thin section shows a well developed chondritic texture, with chondrules well preserved (445±142 µm (n=32)), chondrule fragments and minerals, set into a fine-grained matrix. Olivine shows undulatory extinction and irregular fractures. FeNi is partially converted into iron oxides. Troilite (partially altered) was observed.
Geochemistry: Olivine (Fa19.1±0.2, N = 10), low-Ca pyroxene (Fs17.4±0.6Wo1.1±0.1, N = 10).
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (H4, S2, W2) based on mineral composition, texture, and magnetic properties.
I am a member of the Meteoritical Society (#7743), the Global Meteorite Association (#G0129) and have been collecting meteorites for over 16 years.
