Black-fired pot (Blackware) - Gopovi Tafoya - Santa Clara - U.S.

Santa Clara Pueblo (in Tewa: Khaʼpʼoe Ówîngeh) "Singing Water Village", also known as "Village of Wild Roses", is located in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, USA.

The Pueblo is a member of the Eight Northern Pueblos; its inhabitants belong to the ethnic Tewa group of Native Americans and speak the Rio Grande Tewa language. The Pueblo lies on the Rio Grande between the former San Juan Pueblo to the north and the San Ildefonso Pueblo to the south.

Santa Clara Pueblo is known for the artisanal production of pottery, especially blackware (black-fired) and redware pottery, with deep engravings.

The pot was made in 1978 by the renowned potter Gopovi Tafoya at Santa Clara Pueblo. It has a diameter of about 15 cm and is about 10 cm high.
