'The Night Before Christmas' is the name the poem 'A Visit From St. Nicholas' is more commonly known, a poem first published anonymously in 1823. The poem is set on the night of Christmas Eve, when a family is woken up by Santa Claus. Clement Clarke Moore's depiction of Father Christmas in this work is largely responsible for many of the modern day conceptions of the character, including his naming of each of Santa's reindeers
