Félix Ziem (1821-1911) - Chaumière dans la forêt

Charming oil painting by Felix Ziem from his Barbizon period around 1850, when he regularly visited the Fontainebleau forest and befriended Théodore Rousseau and Jean-François Millet.

We see here a peasant at the entrance of his thatched cottage in the forest.

Works from this period are difficult to find, unlike his abundant Venice views.

22 x 18 cm (with a XIXth-century gilded frame, about 32 x 28 cm)

Bears a monogram "Z" at the bottom right
Annotation "Ziem" on the reverse

Good overall condition, recently cleaned (de-varnished) and has regained its original colors, scratches not very visible near the right edge, in the middle
