La Loire, an original oil painting on marouflé paper mounted on cardboard, by Olivier Debré (1920–1999) after, dating to 1930–1940, depicting a Loire landscape near Montlouis-sur-Loire, France, sold with frame and in excellent condition.

Very interesting painting that would depict the Loire at Montlouis-sur-Loire (near Tours in France) according to inscriptions by a former owner. The latter attributed the work to Olivier DEBRÉ (1920-1999), a famous painter of lyrical abstraction, who in his youth (in 1941 and before) painted impressionist landscapes influenced by his grandfather Edouard DEBAT-PONSAN (1847-1913).
According to our research, Robert DEBRÉ, Olivier's father, acquired in 1933 the property "Les Madères" in Vernou-sur-Brenne, while Michel DEBRÉ's wife (another son of Robert) inherited in 1937 the property "L'épine fleurie" in Montlouis-sur-Loire. The two properties, frequented by Olivier DEBRÉ, were 4 km apart, separated by the Loire.
According to the inscriptions on the back board, this work would have been painted by Olivier DEBRÉ from the DEBRÉ property in Montlouis-sur-Loire.

Provenance: Purchased at an auction in Limoges in 2017 (then showed a yellowed varnish) then personal collection
Very good overall condition, the painting which had a yellowed varnish has just been fully cleaned and has regained its pretty colors. Noted a small repaint at the edge of the sheet, bottom middle, masked by the frame.
On the rear protection board, a collage from a magazine (3 pages) "Hommage à Olivier DEBRÉ", probably from 1999, the year of the painter's death, also labels and handwritten inscriptions "from the window of Mrs. DEBRÉ, mother, Montlouis-sur-Loire, painted by her son Olivier DEBRÉ"
The work is sold as "French school XXth century", open to the buyer to continue our research.
