Ecole Flamande (XVII) - Pietà

High-quality composition from around 1600 on an oak panel, depicting the Virgin of Pity.

Superb handling of light and shadow, numerous details (Virgin's face, drapery...) that suggest an excellent hand, which we think belongs to the Flemish school, alas anonymous like most paintings of this era (and even those identified are often the subject of much expert controversy and frequent changes of attribution).

Very nice presentation, with light, old touch-ups to be noted as with any multi-centennial work, infinitesimal losses along the upper edge margin
