Description from the seller
"Scott's Last Expedition" by Captain R.F. Scott and arranged by L. Huxley - Smith, Elder, London - 1914 edition (Vol II first edition; Vol II fourth) - 20cmx15cm - condition: good, in original blue publisher's binding, with some rubbing to boards and some wear to spine, bookplate to ffep, frontispieces, maps and plates present. The work is an account of Scott's last fatal Antarctic expedition on the Terra Nova. The first volume comprises Scott's journal and reprints the farewell letters found by his side in the tent where the bodies were found. The second volume contains Wilson's account as well as the results of the scientific work completed by the surviving members of the crew. Huxley's accompanying notes are rather sobering but still informative. Scott's widow gave away many copies of the first edition to important people including officers from the expedition.
