Norman painter born in 1924, Claude Gaignoux established himself as one of the region’s most sensitive artists to the light of the ports and maritime landscapes. Permanently settled in Normandy, he develops an oeuvre where port scenes, the shores of the English Channel, seascapes and changing skies prevail. His style, at once sober, luminous and deeply atmospheric, favors soft harmonies and balanced compositions.
Gaignoux regularly exhibits in Norman galleries and participates in several regional fairs, where his work is appreciated for its accuracy of observation and its sense of pictorial silence. His canvases, often imbued with discreet poetry, charm lovers of figurative painting attached to coastal landscapes. He died in 2005, leaving a coherent, elegant body of work sought after by collectors of Norman 20th-century painting.
