Explanation of the work:

Metal or steel is one of the hardest and most resistant materials we have. As a master of steel, I’m used to feeling its hardness and strength, and seeing that force represented in the essence of metal sculptures. But with this new collection I want to do the opposite, something even more challenging: to endow it with sensitivity and to deceive the viewer by showing a sculpture made from hard, durable steel that looks like silk, that seems a sensitive and elegant piece, simple and delicate yet visually powerful.

They are pieces of stainless steel finished with reliefs, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. With them I seek a more relaxed elegance and the desire to create a deception in the spectator’s mind, like an illusion (trompe l’oeil).

They are forged pieces with utmost care, in an idyllic setting, in full connection with steel and art. They are born with the sound of every fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there the notes of their movements flow, seemingly wrinkled and open.

I am drawn to artisanal and groundbreaking designs; thus, with these vertical, wall-mounted sculptures, I focus on becoming part of a new reality where I seek color, texture, and sinuous forms. Who would say it’s steel? These sculptures, magically wrinkled in appearance, make me venerate this primitive material, for it makes everything possible, with no limits to creation or creativity. Even steel can seem as light as silk.

The piece plays with a mirrored effect that causes light to bounce and create spectacular plays of light and shadow, forming a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

José Soler is a sculptor based in Spain whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring to light the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites transforming cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
