In this vivid composition by Vittorio Altieri, a nocturnal landscape transforms into a geometrical and chromatic tapestry. Dominating the scene, two stylized trees with fiery red trunks and foliage in vivid colors (lime green, yellow) rise against a jet-black sky dotted with stars, crowned by a full, white moon. The organic forms are reduced to simplified geometric volumes, with rounded hills painted in shades of yellow, emerald green, cyan blue, and a deep violet. In the center, a sinuous river faithfully mirrors the ordered chaos above, reflecting the shapes and colors of the trees and hills, as well as some geometric rocks arranged on the water. The oil-on-panel technique gives the work a tangible quality, with the grain of the wood visible at the edges, adding a tactile dimension to its visual boldness. The piece is an excellent example of Altieri’s post-Cubist and Fauvist style, where color is not only descriptive but emotional and structural, creating an atmosphere of dreaminess and surrealism.
