Explanation of the work:

Steel is one of the hardest and most resistant materials we have. As a master of steel, I am used to feeling its hardness and strength, and seeing that force represented in the essence of metal sculptures. But with this new collection I want to do the opposite, something even more challenging: to endow it with sensitivity and to trick the viewer by presenting a sculpture made from hard, resistant steel that looks like silk, that seems like a delicate and elegant piece, simple and delicate yet powerful visually.

They are pieces of stainless steel finished with reliefs, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. With them I seek a more casual elegance and the desire to produce a deception in the viewer’s mind, like a trompe l’oeil.

They are forged pieces, crafted with the utmost care, in a idyllic setting, in full harmony with steel and art. They are born with the sound of each fold, of strength and delicacy, and from there flow the notes of their movements that appear wrinkled and open.

I am seduced by artisanal and groundbreaking designs; thus, with these vertical, wall-mounted sculptures, I focus on becoming part of a new reality where I seek color, texture and sinuous shapes. Who would say it’s steel? These sculptures, with a magically wrinkled appearance, make me worship this primitive material, since it makes everything possible, with no limits to creation or creativity. Even steel can seem as light as silk.

The piece plays a mirror effect that makes light bounce and produces spectacular plays of light and shadow, creating a sculpture at the forefront of contemporary art.

José Soler is a Spanish-based sculptor whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Monaco, Italy and France. Through each of his pieces, he strives to bring to light the melody that lives inside each of us. Soler cites the transformation of cold steel into sculpture as his way of connecting with what is invisible to our eyes and what can only be perceived with universal feelings.
