Special antique Swedish edition of “Bibeln eller Den Heliga Skrift”, i.e. The Bible / The Holy Scripture, published in Stockholm in 1877.
The text is prepared by H. M. Melin and the edition is richly illustrated with about 230 famous illustrations by the French artist Gustave Doré (1832–1883). These illustrations belong to the best-known religious book illustrations of the 19th century.
The Bible consists of two parts and is provided with an impressive black leather binding with relief decoration and gold-colored ornaments. Both the boards and the spine are richly decorated and give the book a characteristic 19th-century appearance.
This edition dates from 1877 and is therefore about 149 years old. A special collectible object for lovers of antique books, Bibles, religious history, Swedish bookbinding art and the famous illustrations by Gustave Doré.

Inside the book there is an original bookbinder’s label/stamp, on which the name reads:
A. G. Ljung – Stockholm
This means that the book was bound by bookbinder A. G. Ljung in Stockholm.
The original bookbinder’s label forms a special historical detail of these copies and makes the set even more interesting for collectors of antique books and historical book bindings.
Condition: clear, natural signs of aging and use, appropriate for a book from 1877. The characteristic relief decorations and gold-colored details of the leather binding are still present. See the photos for the exact state.
