Description from the seller
Julius Winfield Erving II (Nassau County, New York), born February 22, 1950), commonly known by the nickname Dr. J, is a former American basketball player. Erving made a major contribution to modern basketball, in which athleticism, leaping, and playing above the level of the basket became increasingly important.
Erving was in 1976, at the time of the merger with the NBA, the best-known player in the American Basketball Association (ABA). He won, together in ABA and NBA, three championships and four Most Valuable Player Awards. In three seasons he led the scoring list. He did so while playing with the Virginia Squires and the New York Nets in the ABA, and the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. He is with 30,026 points (NBA and ABA combined) the fifth-highest scorer in professional basketball history. He is the only player who was named MVP in both the ABA and the NBA. In 1996 Erving was honored as one of the 50 greatest NBA players of all time, of which in that year a list was compiled in honor of the NBA’s 50th anniversary. In 1993 he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Erving was one of the best basketball players ever. He was known for his dunk from the free-throw line. He was one of the best dunkers of all time. His most famous dunk was the “slam” dunk. Since then this move has grown into a fixed concept in basketball and is regarded by most as a fundamental part of the game. He is also credited with creating the “crossover” dribble and the “no-look” pass.
