Turkey, Sultan II. Abdulhamit Han Sultan Tughra - Cup - Silver, late Ottoman period, a matched pair of silver coffee cup holders bearing the imperial tughra with accompanying period porcelain cups and an antique fitted case.
Description from the seller
A rare and highly collectible matched pair of Ottoman silver coffee cup holders, each bearing the imperial tughra of Sultan Abdülhamid II, who reigned from 1876 to 1909, together with additional Ottoman assay marks. The holders have an elegant tapered form raised on circular pedestal feet and are decorated with finely worked beaded and geometric borders. Each holder is accompanied by a period porcelain coffee cup decorated with delicate blue floral and linear motifs enriched with gilt details. The set is presented in an antique fitted case with a red textured exterior and pale blue silk-lined interior. The silver holders display an attractive natural patina, surface scratches, small dents and age-related wear. The porcelain cups show wear to the gilding, staining, surface marks and visible hairlines consistent with their age. The fitted case also shows considerable wear, staining and deterioration to the lining and exterior. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an essential part of the description. An authentic and historically significant example of late Ottoman court-period silverwork, particularly desirable as a surviving pair complete with porcelain cups and fitted presentation case. The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped with tracking and insurance.
