Vintage kitchen step ladder / plant table – 1960s – black tube frame with wooden treads

Characterful vintage kitchen step ladder from the 1960s, made with a black powder-coated metal tube frame, two foldable wooden treads, and a rectangular wooden top surface. A typical household design from the post-war period, where functionality and compact living were central.

Similar Dutch kitchen and household step stools from the 1960s and 70s often combined a metal tube frame with wooden treads and a fold-out or sliding construction. Nowadays, such models are frequently used as decorative objects, side tables, or plant stands, where the varying heights suit multiple plants nicely.

This piece has a lot of character thanks to the contrast between the black frame, the warm wooden treads, and the striking red/orange plastic foot caps. The two treads can be folded inward, making the whole more compact. In the photos, the original construction is clearly visible.

The step ladder is in clearly vintage condition with signs of use appropriate to age and use. The wooden top surface shows wear, scratches, discolorations, and paint/usage marks. The black metal frame also has paint loss, scratches, and local damage. The wooden treads likewise show signs of use and wear. It is precisely this well-worn patina that gives the object its authentic industrial look.
