Description from the seller
The Raft of Capitalism - "The Gold Rush, the Shipwreck of Souls."
Digital collage: https://www.teejo.fr/pages/l-atelier-digital
In this contemporary rereading of Géricault's masterpiece, I aimed to replace Romantic despair with a sharp critique of the modern world: the triumphant and toxic capitalism. The raft, gnawed by the waves, no longer carries survivors seeking salvation, but a failed humanity, hypnotized by the symbols of wealth—ingots, vault, luxury suitcase, stock screens. On the right, a "Wall Street" sign sets the scene: the financial El Dorado as a point of no return.
The gazes are empty, the sail bears the logos of the new idols: cryptocurrencies and luxury brands. A man, tattooed with a bull—an brutal symbol of the Stock Exchange—turns his back to the horizon. Time, represented by a clock adrift, and on the left character’s wristwatch, continues to slip away… but no one looks at it; everyone watches the yacht far away in the distance, hoping to be saved.
This work stages collective blindness, the forgetting of the essential, and a society fighting not to sink… while refusing to let go of the superfluous
