AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Interesting pocket-emptying bowl / glazed ceramic ashtray by Aldo Londi for Bitossi, made in Montelupo Fiorentino, dating to the 1970s.

The piece features a distinctive quadrilobed shape, animated by stepped geometric elements, typical of Italian decorative taste of the period. The rim and walls are coated with a mustard-yellow / ochre glaze, with a deliberately matte surface.

Particularly decorative is the interior bottom, executed in an ivory tone with pronounced craquelure, on which sits a stylized composition of three fish. The figures are outlined in dark and animated by bands of blue, turquoise, red, brown and cream, creating a lively contrast with the warm tone of the structure.

The fish design, almost mosaic-like, and the combination of matte glazes and bright colors clearly evoke the language of Italian Mid-Century Modern and Italian decorative ceramics of the 1960s-70s.

On the base there is the incised mark “ITALY”.

Dimensions: about 19 cm in width × 3.5 cm in height.

The object is presented in good vintage condition, with normal signs of time and some small glaze irregularities/small losses along the edges, visible in the photographs and compatible with its age and artisanal fabrication. The interior glaze craquelure is part of the decorative effect of the piece.

A very representative piece of Tuscan ceramic production of the late twentieth century, especially suitable for a Bitossi collection, Montelupo ceramic, Italian Mid-Century Modern or vintage Italian design.
