- Utrecht, François Halma / Willem van de Water, 1698 - first and only edition - (4) + (16) + 726 + (20) pp. - original marbled calf leather binding; spine with strong ribs, richly floral gold tooling and a title shield - 34 x 22 cm (FOLIO format)
Condition: fine / excellent - very neat original binding (slight crack in the spine at the back as often, however very solid; two small spots on the front); very neat, compact and sturdy block (in mint condition!); very neat, bright white paper (only in the first quire up to p. 1 a very light damp spot in the inner margin, otherwise virtually like new such neat, clean and white pages!). Complete!
[NOTE] photos slightly yellowed by sunlight, the paper is in reality very white!
First and only edition.
Rare and desirable edition!
Splendid plates, very dark and very sharp prints.
Very fresh and very white paper!
Contains all 9 full-page copper engravings of the church Fathers from the period of the early church.
The engravings each show a portrait and an impressive scene of the death of the respective person. The prints were made by I. Goeree and P. Sluyter.
