Description from the seller
Carlo Zauli (1926–2002) – “Maiolustre” Vase, Ceramica in Lustro, Faenza, Italy, c. 1950s–1960s
Elegant stoneware vase designed by renowned Italian ceramic artist Carlo Zauli. The piece features a restrained geometric form with a narrow cylindrical neck above a faceted shoulder and tapering body. Finished in a deep metallic lustre glaze (“maiolustre” in Italian), the surface displays subtle iridescent reflections ranging from charcoal and bronze to gunmetal tones, characteristic of Zauli’s experimental glazing techniques.
The underside bears an impressed mark that appears to read “ZAULI”, consistent with the artist’s studio production. This work reflects Zauli’s transition from traditional decorative ceramics toward the modern sculptural language that would later establish his international reputation.
Technique: Lustre-glazed ceramic (ceramica a lustro, often referred to as maiolustre)
Color: Metallic black, bronze, and gunmetal lustre
Mark: Impressed “ZAULI” mark to base
Condition:
Very good overall condition. Careful examination reveals no chips, cracks, restorations, or structural damage. The lustre glaze remains well preserved, with only minor signs of age and handling commensurate with vintage Italian studio ceramics.
