VOLTA - "Golden Hour"

The shore comes alive with short, dense brushstrokes: warm yellows, soft oranges, full reds, placed next to each other without ever fully blending. The white trunks, thin as threads, cut through the mass of foliage and lift it upward. Behind, the hill stretches into a warm brown and the sky remains a band of clear blue that gives space to everything else. At the bottom the water does not merely reflect: it repeats. It gathers the same colors and lays them out in long horizontal stripes, dotted with violet. The landscape doubles, and the second forest — the inverted one — is looser than the first: it is there that the painting reveals itself for what it is, matter and color in motion.

Volta’s research moves along a path of return—not nostalgic, but active. The great tradition of European painting is the starting point: the period each work evokes, from time to time. But the gesture with which this heritage is traversed is unequivocally contemporary. Color does not illustrate, it breathes. The brushstroke does not describe, it vibrates. What remains of the past is the deep structure — a certain idea of body, of space, of light — while the surface is fully present, fully alive. Volta does not quote, restitutes: his compositions seem to emerge from a shared cultural memory, brought to light with different eyes.
