Description from the seller
From my father's estate I am offering this beautiful oil painting for sale.
On the homepage of the Lempertz Gallery the following information can be found:
"Julius Arthur Thiele was a well-known animal and hunting painter
Julius Arthur Thiele was born on June 11, 1841 in Dresden. He studied from 1856 to 1860 with the painter and draftsman of late Romanticism and the Biedermeier Ludwig Richter, and afterwards from 1861 to 1864 with the painter and gallery director Julius Hübner at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts.
Thereafter Julius Arthur Thiele attended the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and completed his training from 1868 to 1872 with the animal painter Christian Kröner in Düsseldorf. After his marriage in 1882 he moved with his wife to Vienna, but two years later returned to Munich, where from 1884 he lived as a freelance artist. Julius Arthur Thiele became a member of the Munich Artists' Cooperative and lived until his death as a respected animal and hunting painter in the small town of Hohenschäftlarn near Munich. His art, in the tradition of the Munich animal painting with light Impressionist touches, continues to be popular with collectors and connoisseurs and can occasionally bring five-figure sums at auction. His winter scenes are particularly popular.
Julius Arthur Thiele died on April 30, 1919 in Hohenschäftlarn near Munich."
