Interesting medical Cinquecentina containing a systematic exposition of the diagnosis and treatment of the principal internal diseases. Jacques Dubois, French physician and anatomist known by the Latinized name Jacobus Sylvius, collects and arranges in compendium form therapeutic doctrines drawn mainly from Galen's writings and from the work of the Pavese physician Marco Gattinara, integrating them with indications relating to dietary regimens, pharmaceutical preparations, and various curative practices. The volume testifies to the centrality still ascribed to the Galenic tradition in medical teaching of the High Renaissance and to the need to organize therapeutic knowledge in a methodical and easily consultable form.
