Description from the seller
Located in Bjärtrå, on the banks of the Ångermanälven river in northern Sweden, the distillery was founded in 2010. It was named High Coast Distillery, in tribute to the surrounding "High Coast" (Höga Kusten), a UNESCO World Heritage region.
The climate as an asset: Positioned at the 63rd parallel north, the distillery experiences extreme temperature variations (down to -30 °C in winter and up to +30 °C in summer). These thermal amplitudes force the distillate to interact intensely with the wood of the casks, accelerating and uniquely characterizing the maturation process.
The limited Silent Mills series pays tribute to the many historic forest sawmills that once lined the river.
It is a heavily peated whisky (crafted from a distillate with a phenol level of 41 ppm).
Maturation: It was aged 75.6% in first-fill Bourbon casks and 24.4% in first-fill Port wine casks.
Nose: A soft, warm smoke mingling with aromas of poached pears and apples, ginger cake, and waxy orange peels.
Palate: Dense and robust, dominated by an earthy peat, contrasted by the vanilla roundness brought by the bourbon and the fruity, jammy notes of the Port wine.
Finish: Long and lingering, marked by soot, sweet spices (cinnamon, clove), and toasted gingerbread.Would
