Born in 1908 in Lutry, Switzerland, Lucien Beyer grew up in an artistic environment marked by the figure of his father, the ceramist Paul Beyer. First a designer for silk weaving, he quickly turned to painting and joined, in the early 1930s, the Lyon circle led by Marcel Michaud. He became one of the active members of the group Témoignage, an avant-garde movement that brought together painters, sculptors, craftsmen and poets around a deeply humanist and spiritual vision of art.
Beyer participated in the major exhibitions of the group, notably the Lyon Autumn Salon in 1937 and the Paris presentations in 1938 and 1939, where his work was noted for its sensitivity, its sense of material, and its singular plastic language. His career is part of the artistic ferment of the interwar period, alongside figures such as Étienne-Martin, Manessier or Le Moal.
