Biography: Nick WALKER is a painter-artist from the infamous and avant-garde Bristol graffiti scene and the London graffiti scene, born in 1969 in Bristol, England (like Banksy). Specializing in stencil graffiti and various figurations, he often features a gentleman ‘Vandale’ wearing a bowler hat. Nick Walker quickly became one of the emblematic figures of the UK Street Art movement; he has been active in the urban art market for over 20 years. He currently lives and works in Bristol (U.K). He is today one of the world's most famous street artists. As a pioneer of the British graffiti phenomenon, Nick’s work has become a model for hundreds of emerging artists. His work is constantly evolving and always innovative, modern and stimulating. Nick builds on the energy and imagery of graffiti but manages to combine the freedom it provides with a perfect mastery of stencil. The results are very sophisticated and admirable. The methods he uses retain their strength and integrity on the traditional support of canvas. Nick Walker’s instantly recognizable style and humor have earned him worldwide renown. In 2008, Nick’s shows were sold out in Los Angeles and London, where collectors waited more than 24 hours to be among the first to obtain one of the last printed editions. In 2008, his iconic Moona Lisa sold for more than ten times its estimated auction value. "In 1992, I began combining stencils with my freehand work, which allowed me to juxtapose almost-photographic images with the rawness of conventional graffiti. The stencils had a strong impact on my work. The beauty of stencils is that they let me take an image from anywhere (unravel a slice of life) and recreate it on any surface. I try to add a humorous element or irony to some pieces and to bring a little relief and light to the walls. Painting is a form of escape for me, and if my work allows the viewer to do the same, then I am satisfied."
